More Information
PREMIUM INDUSTRIAL GRADE ACRYLIC NON-TOXIC ย ย We use the highest grade of archival quality acrylic resin in all Fusion paints. This translates into a high-performance paint that dries to a very durable finish. Some acrylic based paints on the market are actually acrylic blends or acrylic-vinyl mixes. Fusion is not an acrylic blend, but uses 100%
pure acrylic resin. Fusion paint cures to be the most durable paint and has a non-yellowing finish. Fusion is made with 100% acrylic, meaning it does not use any inexpensive ingredients such as vinyl or latex. It has been found on the
marketplace that the word acrylic has been used to describe simple craft paint as well as paints that also actually contain vinyl. Fusion is also free of many other chemicals commonly used in other lines of paint, such as ammonia or
formaldehyde.
7 YEAR SHELF LIFE ย ย Fusion can last up to 7 years in the unopened container.
TIP: Once open, we put a sheet of plastic wrap between the jar and the lid, as that helps to keep the air out, paint fresh and easier to open
later!
FREEZE RESISTANT ย ย Fusionโs formula allows for the paint to freeze/thaw up to three times before the quality is affected. It has the correct binder-to-solid ratio so that the paint properly cures and hardens without the use of chemicals.
NON-YELLOWING ย ย Water-based acrylic is the only resin that will not yellow in time. Acrylic paint that has been blended with vinyl or styrene is inferior and could yellow over time.
HIGHLY DURABLE FORMULATION Fusion uses 100% water-based acrylic. Fusion is scratch-resistant once it has had time to cure. It has super strong adhesion once it dries and cures. Fusion is water resistant, stain resistant, and washable once cured. A top coat is not required for water permanency. If it is scrubbed during cleaning this matte paint can burnish to a shine, which you will want to avoid to keep the sheen consistent. To avoid this wash with a soft rag and mild soap.
EXCEPTIONAL COVERAGE ย ย Fusion offers excellent coverage, which allows us to offer Pint and Tester sizes. A Pint covers approximately 7mยฒ (75 sq. ft.). We find that most projects only require a Pint. Some brands sell paint by the quart (about 1 liter), which leaves you with wasted paint and money. We offer excellent quality and coverage in sizes you will use, resulting in less out-of-pocket expenses and less environmental waste.
SUPER SMOOTH FINISH ย ย Fusion is offered in a low matte finish. This means reflectance value that allows you to achieve a beautiful smooth finish. This low sheen helps to hide imperfections.
BUILT-IN TOPCOAT ย ย Donโt worry about sealing your pieceโour premium formula ensures a superior finish with a built-in topcoat making your projects easy to complete! After the piece is cured, wash away spills using a soft cloth with water and a mild soap
EASY APPLICATION ย A little goes a long way! Depending on your project, base colour and chosen paint colour, you will need anywhere from 1-2 coats for full coverage. Apply a small amount of paint on your applicator, and brush or roll end to end. If you can see paint lines/dimple marks, use less paint on your tools. Very dry and warm environments may cause paint to dry too quickly, creating texture or brush strokes, so increase your open working time by adding our Extender into the paint. Use our water mister to smooth the paint and reduce lines during application.
ENVIRONMENTALLY CONCIOUS BY DESIGNย All Fusion paints are non-toxic, lead free, virtually odourless and contain no ammonia or formaldehyde. Our containers are made of 30% recycled materials. Refinishing furniture is an environmentally-friendly concept, as it encourages upcycling and restoration of furniture otherwise destined to sit in
a landfill. From the convenient sizes of our paint, to the plastic that the bottles are made from, we employ as many environmentally conscious decisions as possible. Our packaging is made up of the highest-grade PET (Polyethylene
terephthalate - a very strong and durable recycled plastic), which means that the paint inside will not dry out or go bad for up to 7 years in the unopened container. Our PET containers are hand made in North America and contain 30% recycled material. Each pint is made by hand with love, reducing our carbon footprint and supporting our local economy!
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO DRY?ย Fusion is dry to the touch in approximately 30 minutes, but for best results, we recommend waiting 1-2 hours between coats. The paint takes about 21 days to cure (for the water to completely evaporate) and during that time it is best to avoid direct contact with water until it is cured. Avoid washing during the curing process. You'll be amazed at how durable this product is over time
CAN I USE FUSION OUTSIDE?ย
Yes! Fusion is water and UV resistant, so it can last through rain and is resistant to fading in direct sunlight. Over the past 10 years itโs been tried and tested - it will last through a Canadian winter! We recommend not painting degraded, grey wood that has current peeling issues
HOW DO I CLEAN PAINTED FURNITURE? To maintain the appearance of your Fusion painted projects, simply clean them with mild soap or detergent using a soft, lint-free cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners as they could damage your finish. For areas treated with wax or hemp oil, reapply these products periodically and buff with a soft, lint-free cloth for best results
CAN I PAINT TILE WITH FUSION? Although Fusion Mineral paint is not a tile paint, lots of our community have had great success using it to paint tile! There are lots of inspiration pictures on our public Facebook group Paint it Beautiful. With the correct prep, even tiles can be painted!
CAN YOU PAINT COUNTERTOPS WITH FUSION? Our paint offers water resistance but is not waterproof, making them unsuitable for surfaces prone to standing water, like kitchen and bathroom countertops. However, when applied to raw wood countertops, multiple coats of SFO or Gel Stain & Topcoat provide water resistance and durability. It's important to seal edges and any cutouts, as wood absorbs moisture like a sponge.
HOW TO PAINT SLICK/SHINY SURFACES? Do you have a really tricky surface to paint? Our Ultra Grip allows for Fusion to adhere to surfaces that are typically not for painting such as a lacquered surface, melamine, thermofoil or laminate. Non-toxic, water-based ultra grip makes painting the impossible, possible! Apply one very thin coat. Allow to dry for 12 hours before applying subsequent coats of Fusion colours.
IS FUSION FOOD SAFE? We only have 3 finishes that are food safe in the Fusion Line and those are Hemp Oil, Beeswax Finish (a pure beeswax blend with hemp oil) and Salad Bowl Finish. Our paint and other accessories and finishes are
not considered food safe.
HOW TO CHOOSE THE BEST BRUSH FOR MY PROJECT? Choosing the right brush for your furniture painting project can make all the difference in achieving that flawless finish. The Staalmeesterยฎ range of brushes will help get the best
results on your project! Flat brushes are great for flat surfaces, the pointed sash and angled sash work best for detailed and smaller areas like carvings and spindles. The larger your project, the larger your brush should be. The aim is to paint across the surface in as few brushstrokes as possible.
HOW DO I USE SFO? Apply Stain & Finishing Oil (SFO) generously by pouring or brushing onto the evenly sanded surface, and remove excess after 10-15 minutes. If desired, add a second coat (after re-coat time of 9 hrs) for a deeper colour or more sheen. The pigment in it stains your wood accentuating the grain. SFO is a combination of natural oils and resins that penetrate into wood fibers to create a durable, scratch-resistant, waterproof finish. Softer woods like pine and cedar are more porous, allowing them to absorb more stain, which can lead to darker and sometimes uneven finishes. Harder woods such as maple and oak have a tighter grain that absorbs less stain, resulting in lighter and more consistent colours. Applying in long strokes from end to end can result in lines or streaks. Over table tops for example you should apply the SFO in circular motions and ensure the excess is removed. You are aiming for the thinnest, even application possible.
CAN I USE SFO OVER FUSION MINERAL PAINT? Absolutely! SFO can be used over larger surfaces and over Fusion Mineral Paint to increase protection and the sheen, the more coats you apply the more increase in sheen will occur. Over
larger painted surfaces the SFO needs to be applied in thin amounts and buffed
on.
